The WIRDA General Programmes focus on:

  • Developing innovative community health programs aimed at enhancing adoption of positive health seeking behavior and services among vulnerable groups.   
  • Enhancing CSOs business skills development through formal and informal training programs in order to create -employment opportunities for the poor
  • Promoting sustainable development solutions through increased awareness of the environmentally sound technologies focused on sustainable agriculture, tree planting, and energy conservation etc.
  • Equipping CSOs and FBOs with Human rights and Good Governance skills in order to effectively manage the affairs concerning them and their communities.
  • Developing and strengthening CSOs programs aimed at ensuring total realization of the Women ,Youth and Children rights including access to education, health care and other basic needs.

    WIRDA targeted Primary beneficiaries

    The target and beneficiaries of  our activities include :-
    Orphaned vulnerable children (OVC) .
    Widows, and Women engaged in commercial sex.
    Unemployed adult youth .
    Adolescents and  Youth in and out of school.
    Single mothers, the disabled, and elderly.
    Families that have absorbed so many OVC

    Approach

    WIRDA uses community participatory approaches where the target group is involved in all aspects of the project. These include:- Needs assessment, Survey, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the project. Consultations with the community groups are held once a target community has been identified so as to prioritize on their problems and draw a plan of action. With support from the Wakiso District HIV//AIDS  programme , A Community -Based Health Care, AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Mitigation network has been established by WIRDA and is already in place and operating. An network of over 200 CBOs and FBOs groups are promoting VCT, HBC, and condom vending and distributing in rural Waksio . Good working relations with Ministry of Health, Wakiso district director Health Services offices including the District Director Health Services,  and Local Council Community Leaders.
